I will not vote for legislation requiring spaying/neutering of dogs and cats and rob an individual of their right to do their part in preventing animal overpopulation via supervision of their own pets' activities." |

I will consider voting for legislation protecting animals from cruelty if and only if ALL of the following criteria are met. 1. The inhumane activity is clearly defined. 2. There is no dispute over whether or not the activity is inhumane. 3. The inhumane activity is actually taking place within Colorado and is not just a hypothetical possibility. 4. The inhumane activity is truly a statewide issue and not specific to a local circumstance. 5. Free market solutions are unable to address the issue. It would be irresponsible to vote for any legislation that does not meet the above criteria." |

no answer given/no answer given/Undecided - "As a Libertarian, I am in favor of removing all government involvement from the education system and privatize all our schools. I believe that parents are best suited to making the education decisions for their children and they should be free to select the private school that best provides the education they want their children to receive. Schools should be free to make the decision on what options they provide in their biology classes as part of their effort to create the best possible curriculum for attracting students to their program. I would consider legislation governing how animals are acquired for dissection by schools choosing to use dissections in their biology programs. However, the proposed legislation would have to meet the same requirements described in question 4 above. If I had the slightest doubt as to the necessity of the legislation, I would vote against it." |
6a - Do you believe that, given the well-documented connection between cruelty/violence toward animals and cruelty/violence toward human beings, cruelty to animals should be a felony? Please select the choice that most closely reflects your position:
(a) no; (b) yes; (c) yes, in certain cases (this might mean, for example, extreme cases only, or after the first offense)
6b - Would you be likely to support related humane legislation at the state level? Yes/No/Undecided

no answer given - "Colorado residents should have a voice in wildlife policy in their local area of the state. I do not think it is appropriate for residents of the Front Range and the Western Slope to meddle in each other's business. However, as a Libertarian, I believe that if those residents really want to butt into each other's activities, they should be free to do so through exercising free speech, funding preservation organizations operating in the region, or even boycotting a region's companies if they think that will achieve their desired goals. My comments on question #4 also apply to this question." |

No - "The anti-trapping initiative is not an appropriate subject for inclusion in the Colorado Constitution and should be repealed completely. What should be included in the Colorado Constitution is the declaration of whether or not the state has the authority to regulate issues related to hunting, trapping, fishing, pest control, etc. If the state is given such authority, it is then the responsibility of the state legislature to define the specific regulations. If animals should have specific rights reserved for them, those are appropriate for inclusion in the Colorado Constitution. However, the contents of this amendment do not define any rights reserved for animals, but instead controls the processes that people are allowed and not allowed to take in their management of various animal populations. This is the appropriate domain of the state legislature and in no way a Constitutional issue. Even if the amendment were properly enacted through legislative action instead of constitutional muddying, I would support drastic changes to eliminate intrusions on private property rights." |
